For the past month, we’ve repeatedly seen the Portuguese press celebrating Sporting’s deal to sign Pedro Porro from Manchester City.
The Lions are pretty happy with the fullback’s loan spell in Lisbon, and are expected to use their buying option over him before the deadline in 2022.
That’s why it was unexpected to see Spanish outlet Fichajes featuring a story at the weekend saying Pep Guardiola will bring the player back to Manchester City.
Their article said the manager wants an alternative for João Cancelo and would soon call back the 21-year-old. It’s claimed not even Porro was expecting that, since he thought he’d be loaned out again following his time at Sporting.
It’s obvious Fichajes got it all wrong, and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo only needed a short paragraph to explain the situation today.
They claim that according to their sources, there’s no way Manchester City would have Porro back unless they negotiate a complete new deal with Sporting.
The Lions have an option to buy Porro for €8.5m, and if things continue like this, they will sign him permanently, and Pep Guardiola has his hands tied in this situation.
