Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz could move back to Manchester City this summer, according to claims from Brazil.

Globo Esporte says the Citizens are busy planning their squad for next season, having been eliminated from the Champions League by Lyon, and one of the topics on the table is the return of the 22-year-old.

It’s claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘moving’ to trigger the clause which allows them to sign the player back for a fee of £25m.

The report says Douglas Luiz is flying to Birmingham today, and is supposed to present himself to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Manchester City spent £11m to sign Douglas Luiz from Vasco da Gama back in 2017. The midfielder spent two seasons on loan at Spanish side Girona, and couldn’t get a work permit to feature for Pep Guardiola’s side.

He was then sold to Aston Villa in a £15m deal last summer, and managed to get a temporary permit. Now, according to Globo Esporte, he’s got a working visa for the next two years.

The report says that as part of that process, he had to pass an English test in June.
