Manchester City have started to ‘mobilise’ themselves to try and sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United in the summer.

That’s according to UOL, who report Manchester City have started the initial efforts to try and sign the Brazilian midfielder.

They explain that Guimarães has entered Manchester City’s radar after the news that Kevin de Bruyne is set to depart at the end of the season.

The Premier League champions want to be ahead of the game on that front and are showing interest in various names. The Newcastle star is on that list of names.

So far Manchester City have not yet opened negotiations with Newcastle, who will be reluctant to sell one of their key players.

Guimarães currently has a €100m release clause in his contract at St James Park but that is a figure Manchester City consider as ‘high to reach’. They are, though, evaluating the next steps and a potential deal.

They’ve been encouraged to do so by Pep Guardiola, who likes the profile of the Brazilian midfielder and would gladly have him in his squad.

Guimarães current deal with Newcastle runs until 2028 and it is unlikely that they will be interested in negotiating any deal below that €100m release clause.
