Despite frequent links with several European sides this season, it seems Gelson Martins is staying at Sporting after all.
Record has a story today revealing the player’s €60m release clause expired on June 1st, so his price is now up to club president Bruno de Carvalho.
Even an option the club had to increase his release clause to €100m has expired as well, so there’s not a fixed price to take him from the Lisbon side anymore.
And even though there’s been previous links with Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, the only English club to be mentioned in today’s story is Manchester City.
Record claims Pep Guardiola’s side, along with Barcelona and Real Madrid, have been following the player’s development and will continue to do so.
There have been no official approaches from Manchester City or any other clubs, but the outlet still insist the player is much wanted in Europe.
Gelson needs to do more to show he’s worth €60m, even in the current market, and whilst the Portuguese press may like to suggest Manchester City, and others, have missed their chance, it’s unlikely Guardiola will be crying himself to sleep over this one.
