First came Erling Haaland, then came Patson Daka.
Already at the club when the Norwegian striker was sold to Borussia Dortmund, the Zambia international stepped up immediately and has filled the superstar’s boots more than adequately.
He’s done so well, in fact, that a long list of teams, including Manchester City and Manchester United, have all enquired about the 22-year-old.
It’s no secret that both clubs will be on the market for a goalscorer in the near future, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing to eventually replace Sergio Agüero, while their Old Trafford counterparts could see Edinson Cavani leave after just one year if Juan Roman Riquelme gets his wish.
However, that will come at a price if they decide to sign Daka, as the Salzburger Nachrichten, relayed by Welt Fussball in Austria, explain he could be more expensive than Haaland was.
Sold to Dortmund for a now bargain price of £18m, the Norway international was the third biggest sale for Red Bull Salzburg, who will be looking to beat that when their current star goes, with the Austrian newspaper stating ‘a record transfer fee is due’ if he ‘continues to score as he has in the past few weeks’.
With 20 goals in 18 league games this season (which is 1.1 goal per game), Daka is tearing oppositions apart, and with Manchester City and Manchester United reportedly ‘expressing their interest’, an exit could be on the horizon.
Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to have knocked, meaning ‘four heavyweights’ from the Premier League are now at the Zambian’s door, who is currently valued at €20m (with more needed to sign him).
There’s worst situations to be in as a young footballer, that’s for sure.
