Pep Guardiola’s system at Manchester City is not helping Jeremy Doku to succeed, with the winger not suited to the style the Catalan wants.

That’s according to Belgian coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck, via Redactie 24, who says he already pointed out a flaw with Doku when he was making his debut for Anderlecht.

Manchester City are working their way out of a crisis, with their victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening the start of that.

It had been the worst run of their time under Pep Guardiola and during his entire managerial career, which has become synonymous with success over the years.

Doku was part of turning that around, with a goal and an assist last night, but prior to the game it was suggested Guardiola hasn’t been getting the best out of him since he joined Manchester City.

Vanhaezebrouck believes that is because he doesn’t fit into Guardiola’s system or style of play.

“Out of a hundred balls, Doku wants 99 into his foot, to make his action. He almost never leaves without a ball. I already raised that with Anderlecht, when I let him debut,” he said.

“Should he go deep first, with his speed, he might only meet one more defender on his way to goal. But that’s not how City play. I think that’s a flaw in Guardiola’s game. And a pity for Doku. The national team would benefit if he does learn to do that.”
