As Catalan outlet Sport managed to have an exclusive interview with Manchester City loanee João Cancelo, he can’t hide how excited he is to prove himself at Barcelona.
Following a deadline day move which took him to the Camp Nou, the fullback claims to be ready to impress at his new club.
“I’m going to do everything to explode at Barça. I’ll try to show my football, my quality, but always with the help of the team , because I need it and I think we have a lot of quality in the squad. I hope it will be a great season,” João Cancelo told Sport.
“The coach gives me a little freedom and I like that. I feel comfortable playing inside but also outside. I will adapt to everything he asks of me.”
The Portugal international ended up meeting some familiar faces at Barcelona, as the likes of Ferran Torres and Ilkay Gundogan welcomed him to the club.
Cancelo hasn’t been in Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City for a while.
That led him to the loan to Bayern Munich last season, and following months of speculation this summer, he ended up agreeing to the switch to the Camp Nou.
His contract with Manchester City runs until 2027, though, so his performances in Spain shall now decide whether the La Liga giants will come for his permanent transfer at the end of the season.
