Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has been absent from Portugal training today after complaining of ‘muscle complaints’.
That’s according to Mais Futebol, who say the Manchester City man did not participate in the last training session for the clash with Liechtenstein.
According to their information the midfielder ‘presented muscle complaints’ to the Portuguese medical team after Tuesday’s training session and is now a doubt for Portugal’s last two games of qualifying for Euro 2024.
Portugal travel to Zurich, Switzerland at some point this afternoon but it remains to be seen whether Nunes will be a part of the travelling party.
He is a key player for his country but has only featured in 35% of the available minutes for Manchester City in the Premier League this season following his €62m move from Wolves in the summer.
He didn’t feature in the 4-4 draw with Chelsea before this international break and only managed 19 minutes in the 6-1 win over Bournemouth after also spending the wins over Manchester United and Brighton sat on the bench.
Perhaps it is that lack of regular playing time which has led to this unidentified injury, with Portugal now seemingly assessing him after he made the problem clear.
