Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha has told Anderlecht he is moving to the Bundesliga this summer.

That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who say the striker has made it clear to the club he will not be returning after his loan spell this year.

Nmecha has been on loan from Manchester City this season and impressed, bagging 21 goals and three assists in 41 games.

He continued that form into the summer, playing a starring role in Germany’s U21 side, finishing as top goalscorer as they won the U21 European Championship.

It means there is plenty of interest in his signature, and Anderlecht have been working hard to get ahead of the competition and secure him on a permanent basis.

That is now off the cards, though, with the Manchester City man posting his thanks to the club on social media this week and making it clear he won’t be returning.

That’s because he’s eyeing up a move to the Bundesliga, according to HLN, who say Nmecha ‘informed’ Anderlecht that he’s ‘opting for a project in the Bundesliga’.

Which club that will be at isn’t mentioned yet, but he did provide a statement to the outlet, stating it is “better to continue my career elsewhere”.

Where that is remains to be seen, but this follows several reports linking Nmecha with a move to the Bundesliga over the last few months.

Hamburg were explicitly named as suitors back in April, and they’ve tried to sign him twice before, while Bundesliga interest was said to be driving up his price as well.

That was then followed by his father confirming interest from Germany, so him suddenly deciding to head there from Manchester City is no surprise.

Whether it’s HSV or someone else who’ve tempted him is something we’re yet to discover, although we’re sure that will change sooner rather than later.
