The Catalan media has repeatedly reported that Manchester City want to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, but that the player wants to sign for Barcelona instead.
It’s been presented as Barcelona winning the battle for the Inter player, yet Marca have it differently on Friday.
Agreeing that Barca want to sign the Argentine striker, and that he wants to join the club, it’s claimed Martinez will make some kind of gesture if needed, to force Inter into the move.
However, when it comes to Manchester City, the newspaper’s stance is different to the Catalan media. Marca say Pep Guardiola’s club did have the player on their transfer agenda for the summer window.
Since then though they’ve dropped the idea of signing him, instead choosing to stay with the options of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus for next season. That makes some sense, it’s not an area of great need for Guardiola and given the money involved it doesn’t seem like an investment which needs to be made.
Still, the Catalan media will probably continue to claim Barcelona have beaten Manchester City.
