On May 31st, we covered claims from France that Manchester City are to make an offer for Rayan Cherki. It was also stated Liverpool are in the running to sign the Lyon player.
AC Milan have also showed interest in the 21-year-old but are set to miss out on him this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover Milan and Manchester City progress.
He claims Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada tried to set up negotiations for Cherki last week. The Rossoneri weren’t able to make advances because the attacking midfielder has ‘promised himself to Manchester City’.
The Premier League club have made advances in their pursuit of the newly capped France international.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who state the Citizens made an initial offer, probably verbal, of €22.5m on Thursday. The French club have no intention of accepting this offer.
Last September, Cherki signed a new contract with the Ligue 1 club and at that time he agreed with Lyon owner John Textor to set a cap on the transfer fee to let him leave. The figure was capped at €22.5m, which is the figure proposed by Pep Guardiola’s side.
If Lyon were to reject an offer equal to or more than €22.5m, L’Equipe state they have to pay €3m to the player, to be paid in maximum of four instalments.
Manchester City seem to be taking advantage of Cherki’s contractual situation to sign him for €22.5m. Lyon aren’t pleased, but the player expects progress to be made.
“Yes, it’s taking shape, you know my answer, there’s one more match, we just have to be patient, we have to win this match and then we’ll see,” Foot Mercato quoted him as saying when asked about his future.
