Manchester City have endured a difficult season by their recent standards and are fourth in the table, 20 points behind leaders Liverpool. Real Madrid have knocked them out of the Champions League and the Citizens have only the FA Cup to fight for this campaign.

The Premier League club were active in the winter market as they signed five players and four of them are currently part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Foot Mercato state Manchester City are to make more signings in the summer window and the goalkeeping position is one of the areas they want to improve.

Pep Guardiola has used Ederson and Stefan Ortega as the two goalkeepers this season. The Brazilian kept six clean sheets and conceded 43 goals from 27 games while Ortega has four clean sheets and conceded 19 goals from 14 games this season.

The outlet says Ederson’s performances haven’t been up to the mark which has seen the manager use the German on a few occasions.

Manchester City are looking to sign a new stopper and have identified FC Porto star Diogo Costa as the priority target. He’s their ‘first choice’ target and they made first contacts to sign the 25-year-old Portugal international.

Foot Mercato don’t specify whether Manchester City approached Porto, Costa or both. His contract is until 2027, but the report states ‘everything indicates’ he will make a switch to England in the next window.

Guardiola’s side already took Nico González from Porto earlier this month and could return to the club in the summer for Costa. He’s managed by Jorge Mendes, who also represents Ederson and has good ties with the English club.
