Tottenham are yet to show an interest in signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, and it is in fact Manchester City who are keen on him.

That’s according to FC Inter News, who provide their own information regarding the centre-back’s future today and an apparent growing interest in the Premier League in him.

We’ve covered several reports over the last few months making it clear that Tottenham are keen on Bastoni, who worked under Antonio Conte during the manager’s time at Inter.

The Italian coach is believed to be a big fan of him still and would like to add him to his defence at Tottenham, which he believes is in need of an overhaul.

Indeed, only yesterday we covered a report that stated Spurs will ‘try again’ for the player, with the interest coming from their manager.

FC Inter News are having none of that, though, and instead say Tottenham have been ‘deflected’ from the race.

According to them, despite the latest market rumours they have not come back for the defender after their rejected approach in the summer and they are not thinking about a move given Conte’s uncertain future.

That should ‘nip in the bud’ any hypothesis for now but it does not mean there is no interest in the Premier League. In fact, Manchester City are looking at him keenly.

Pep Guardiola’s side see Bastoni as an ‘ideal profile’ for the style of football that they want to play, in which centre backs are expected to step up and play with the ball.

Bastoni is more than capable of doing that and slotting in seamlessly and is thus on a four- or five-man shortlist of defenders that Manchester City are currently looking at.
