For the past couple of days, rumours in Brazil have been claiming that Shakhtar Donetsk winger Tete could be on his way to Manchester City.
This is a story which spread on Twitter, and then via big outlets such as MSN. So we went to take a look.
MSN’s report claims that Shakhtar are ‘forwarding’ Tete’s sale. Then they credit journalist Alex Bagé to say that two of the clubs who have an eye on him are Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The website also adds that Leicester City and Newcastle United were two clubs who contacted the player’s agents earlier this year, it isn’t made clear if they’d be serious candidates for a January move.
But what was Alex Bagé really saying? Well, with a Youtube channel completely focused on Grêmio, he was just claiming that the Brazilian side will make some big money in case Tete is sold by Shakhtar.
That’s because Grêmio kept 18% of a future sale when negotiating the player’s sale with the Ukraine side, so now they watch his success with a lot of hope.
Bagé claimed ‘it was talked’ a lot about the interest from Manchester City and Manchester United. Especially because of the winger had a good performance against Pep Guardiola’s side for the Champions League.
However, he never really stated that Premier League sides are going for Pepe. So although the news about a Man City move spread through Brazil in the past couple of days, there’s not really much in it at this stage.
