Manchester City are ‘leading the way’ to sign William Carvalho from Sporting, report Corrieo da Manha. The Portuguese newspaper have reiterated a possible exit for William this summer, but rather than him being linked with West Brom and Tony Pulis, this time it’s Manchester City’s turn again.

Claims of Manchester City interest in the Portuguese international saw a peak when he changed agents to Pere Guardiola. There was an assumption from some that it must be the foundation building for a transfer to Manchester City, although such a sequence of events would be surprising.

Maybe round at the Guardiola’s Catalan base there have been family dinners during which Pere had got his iPad out to show Pep the greatest hits of William Carvalho.

Interest is possible, it wasn’t so long ago some of Europe’s biggest clubs were said to be battling to sign the player.

But he’s failed to kick on, and would be fortunate to bag a move to Manchester City this summer.
