Real Betis youngster Dani Pérez has ended up in the sights of Manchester City, according to claims from Spain.
The 17-year-old climbed through the ranks of the club’s youth system and is currently part of Betis Deportivo, the Spanish side’s reserve team. His rise over the years has attracted attention from elsewhere.
That’s according to AS, who explain that Manchester City and Real Madrid have been keen on the attacking midfielder. He was part of Manuel Pellegrini’s pre-season squad.
A potential move for Pérez has been made difficult after he signed a new contract with the La Liga side. He extended his deal until 2025 and this was made official by the club on Tuesday.
It’s claimed that Los Verdiblancos took this step to try to scare Pérez suitors, including the Premier League champions and the La Liga winners.
Betis seem to have high hopes for the Spain U18 international. Their head of youth football, Miguel Calzado, was photographed with the teenager after he penned a new deal.
This is ‘not usual’, but AS state that considering Pérez’s profile and the interest shown by greats like Manchester City and Real Madrid, he deserves it.
Although Betis are trying to scare Pérez’s suitors by renewing his contract, it needs to be seen whether this will have any impact on Manchester City chasing him.
