PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo being linked to the likes of Manchester City is ‘beautiful’ and something that makes the rest of the squad ‘very proud’.
That’s according to teammate Armando Obispo and Jordan Teze, who has insisted they are not concerned about the reports linking Gakpo with a move away.
22-year-old Gakpo has been in superb form for PSV this season, with a tally of 13 goals and 13 assists in 33 games in all competitions so far.
That has reportedly earned the winger plenty of interest around Europe, particularly in the Premier League, when Manchester City are believed to be keen.
A report earlier this year stated that they had already held ‘exploratory talks’ with the player about a potential transfer this summer, with PSV chief John de Jong later admitting he doesn’t know how long the Dutch club can keep their prized asset.
They would obviously be disappointed to lose a key player to a big club, but it seems his teammates are all rooting for him.
“Of course, that makes us very proud,” Obispo told Voetbal International.
“To be honest, I did expect that he would become so good, but not that his development would go so fast that he could already show it at the Dutch national team.
“But we are on the pitch with him every day; we know what Cody can do.
“Cody is having a good season, and we still have some way to go,” added Teze.
“There are good things coming for him. It’s great that his name is being linked with big clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool. That’s an example of how we want it in the end.”
