Manchester City are in the race to sign Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, according to multiple reports from Italy.

The centre-back has been a regular for their first team since the start of last season and has managed to attract interest from clubs in Italy and abroad.

Calciomercato state Juventus are keen on the 19-year-old and will need a ‘sumptuous offer’ to beat competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

It’s said the Old Lady will face a ‘challenge’ from the Citizens and the Bavarian club, who have ‘already made moves’ with Atalanta. The prospect of a deal for the defender has seen the latter rub their hands.

Manchester City bolstered their defence by signing Joško Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the last window. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the treble winners had evaluated the Italy international as an alternative to Gvardiol.

Scalvini continues to be a target for Pep Guardiola’s side and has ‘been in contact’ with them and Bayern. The ‘competition will be very high’ to sign him after this season as Juve are also interested.

Atalanta had requested €50m for him when Paris Saint-Germain made an approach in the summer and TMW state Scalvini’s asking price now could be around €45-50m.

The price could vary, depending upon Scalvini’s performances this season and if he were to impress at the Euros [provided Italy qualify] next summer.
