The Portuguese press are back with more excitement over Ederson’s transfer to Manchester City.

As the goalkeeper will be playing his 50th game for Benfica this weekend, Record use the milestone to explain he won’t be staying long at the club. Party-poopers.

After only one paragraph about 50 games, the newspaper claims Manchester City and Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira have a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ over the transfer.

They state that although there are other candidates for the 23 year old, Manchester City are still the ‘most likely destination’.

Ederson currently has a €50m release clause. But as revealed by Benfica last month, 50% of a sale will go to his former club Rio Ave, so the Eagles should end up getting only €25m for the goalkeeper.

CapturarThat’s what leads us to believe that if this agreement is real, the transfer fee would be close to his clause. Benfica wouldn’t let a player of such potential leave for less.

But the Portuguese press often overreact over big transfers, and as you can see the move isn’t even in the headline. It’s one of those cases when the sale becomes an absolute truth for the newspaper, even though things may not be that close yet.

With Claudio Bravo not working out for Pep Guardiola, it would probably be wise for Manchester City to consider signing a new goalkeeper in the summer.
