A week ago, SportExpressen reported Brentford have a ‘serious interest’ in Malmö FF star Anel Ahmedhodžić and could ‘place a bid’ to sign him in the winter market.
The defender was an integral part of the Swedish side, who were successful in retaining the title, after avoiding defeat against Halmstad at the weekend. Prior to the tie, the 22-year-old was quizzed about teaming up with Pontus Jansson at the Premier League side.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has revealed he is a supporter of Manchester City because of his compatriot, Edin Džeko, previously playing for the Citizens.
“Premier League! [his dream league] But at the same time, I have to think about what is best for myself. [Like] Playing time, where there is a good plan and where I develop the most,” he told Aftonbladet.
When further pressed why the top flight football in England is his dream league, the centre-back explained: “I’ve been watching it since I was little and have always been a Manchester City fan since Edin Džeko was there.”
Ahmedhodžić, however, admits a move to Manchester City will be a ‘big step now’. However, he has an opportunity to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League as Brentford are showing interest. The player has now revealed he has already held talks with Jansson regarding the Bees.
“I have had some contact with “Ponne” [Jansson]. We have had a wonderful dialogue. It’s a fantastic club if you look at the last few years. However, they [Brentford] are not the closest right now. But I think it’s a serious option,” he added.
When asked who is the closest right now, Ahmedhodžić said: “I cannot reveal that now.”
The Bosnian has been linked with a move to Serie A in the previous windows. The player stressed he will have the final say on where he will move next.
“Italy would have suited me perfectly as well. There are some leagues that would have suited me well. Yes [I will choose]. I will not go anywhere I do not want to be. I trust my gut feeling a lot and it has taken me here,” the Malmö star concluded.
