Manchester City have ‘earmarked’ a figure of €60m for Sporting Lisbon youngster Nuno Mendes as they eye a move this summer.

That’s according to A Bola, who say the Citizens have an advantage over the competition when it comes to the highly coveted youngster.

Mendes has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in world football over the last year and has a host of big clubs in Europe chasing him.

Mendes is currently with the Portuguese national team, and his future will only be defined after the European Championship, but Manchester City have an advantage over the competition.

They have an ‘established protocol’ with Sporting that sees players move between the two clubs, and they intend to use that to their advantage.

Mendes has a contract with the Portuguese side until June 2025, and that includes a termination clause of €70m, the highest of all the players in Sporting’s squad.

City’s hope is to use their relationship to their advantage, but there will be competition from Europe, where Mendes is ‘closely followed’ by the main clubs in Spain and Italy.
