Manchester City’s interest in Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez continues to be highlighted in the Spanish media.

On Tuesday, it was Marca who reported that Pep Guardiola ‘intends’ to sign the 20-year-old. They claimed that the Premier League side ‘closely followed’ the player for a while and have ‘already shown their willingness’ to land him.

Now in an update brought by Fichajes, it’s claimed that Manchester City are ‘complicating’ Barcelona’s plan to renew Gonzalez’s contract.

It’s said Pep Guardiola ‘shares’ the same tastes as the Catalan side, and therefore he wants the player as well. The outlet points out the youngster could ‘be an excellent footballer’ under the manager, and this thought is spoiling the plans for a new contract at the Camp Nou.

Gonzalez is well protected with a contract running until 2024. However, his growing importance at the club urges Barça to give him a pay rise, and that’s what’s pressing them to agree a new deal.

Manchester City could create a bump in the road.
