While Manchester City’s focus is always on improving the first-team squad with big signings, there is also a determination to continue developing the youth side of things.

City have spent the last decade or so hoovering up young talent from around Europe, and that remains the case under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.

With the majority of their big business done this summer, it seems they’ve turned their attention to youth on deadline day again.

Catalan radio station RAC are reporting that they are ‘about to close’ a deal for Girona midfielder Pedro Porro before today’s deadline.

This is not the first time they have been linked with the midfielder, and we covered a report from Record that he had long been on their wishlist.

Mundo Deportivo confirm that RAC report, adding that the station is reporting City will pay €12m for the midfielder.

That’s an acceptable price for Girona as it will allow them to do their own transfer business.

The 19-year-old Spaniard will not move to the Etihad this summer, though, with City instead looking to send him out on loan for the coming season.

In fact, it appears that a move has already been lined up, with the RAC also saying a deal is now in place for him to move to La Liga side Real Valladolid on loan.

That would make sense as we covered an earlier report that stated Valladolid had made the midfielder a priority this summer, ahead of competing with West Brom for Iván Balliu.
