On February 7th, we relayed news from France that Manchester City were unsuccessful in their summer attempts to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon after submitting a €50m bid for the midfielder.
It was also explained the Premier League winners are still in contact with the entourage of the 22-year-old with regards to a move in the future.
A few reports indicated that Barcelona are also in the race for the midfielder and Thursday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport takes a look at the situation involving both the Spanish champions and Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ndombele was one of the midfielders followed by the Blaugrana for the future project at the Camp Nou. After overcoming an ankle problem, he started against Ernesto Valverde’s side in the goalless draw in the Champions League clash at Groupama Stadium earlier this week.
His performance impressed the La Liga winners (it certainly wasn’t one of his better nights), but they will not make an approach for the Lyon star since they have already agreed a deal with Ajax for Frenkie de Jong’s transfer.
Sport claims Manchester City are now ‘clear favourite’ to sign the player of ‘great projection’ and his transfer fee may rise to €60m.
With Barca deciding against spending big on Ndombele, they believe he could make a switch to the Etihad.
