Barcelona will try to tie up Manchester City defender Eric Garcia with a view to signing him on a free transfer.
However, they will sign the defender this month if City are willing to let him leave the club earlier than anticipated.
Garcia is in the final six months of his contract at the Etihad and, having failed to sign a new deal, is now free to negotiate with other clubs.
He is expected to move to Barcelona, who were keen to sign him in the summer but could not reach an agreement with Manchester City on an asking price.
They’ve continued to be linked since then, with it made clear that Garcia wants to return to his former club and they will push to tie him down this month.
Sport back that up today, explaining that Garcia is a ‘club signing’ with former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as Òscar Grau and Ramon Planes, having left the signing in the hands of his agent Ivan de la Peña.
All of the candidates to replace Bartomeu ‘support his incorporation’ and Ramon Planes’ ‘objective’ is to announce an agreement for the summer.
However, if Carles Tusquets, President of the Management Company at the club, gives the go-ahead, Barcelona will negotiate with Manchester City to make the transfer happen in the January transfer window.
The Citizens made a permanent deal difficult in October but their position today is ‘unknown’.
If there are ‘any signs of a collaboration’, though, Garcia will make the move to the Camp Nou this month.
