Barcelona, as a club, are continually lurching from good to bad news, with the concentration on the latter in recent months.

Thursday saw optimistic reports on the Ansu Fati situation, with it stated the player and his family had held a meeting with Jorge Mendes in a Barcelona hotel. The result of it all is that Fati wants to remain at the club and will sign a renewal, even though his wages will start off relatively low.

The youngster is splashed across the front of Friday’s Mundo Deportivo, and inside there’s a claim Manchester City tried to disrupt things. According to the claims, when Mendes was in Manchester sorting out Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer, he ‘received a call’ from City.

Pep Guardiola’s side ‘asked’ about signing Fati, trying to use the agent’s trip as an opportunity. However, Mendes and Fati are convinced the best route forward is continuing at Barcelona.

The whole story feels like an effort to make Fati and Barcelona look as good as possible, and it’s even claimed the player turned down Real Madrid as well as Manchester City.

Probably one to take with a pinch of salt.
