Many clubs were on the scouting list for Benfica’s Europa League match against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday evening, but Manchester City weren’t one of them.

However, Txiki Begiristain was in the stadium and watched the match from a VIP box. Given the City chief’s trip, more was always likely to come out about a possible transfer.

It didn’t take long, and Saturday’s edition of Record has a big report explaining Francisco Reis Ferreira, better known as Ferro, was the target of interest.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are said to be keen on the 21 year old central defender, with Borussia Dortmund also making contact. Txiki’s trip was to ask Benfica the conditions to sign their youngster.

Record report Benfica showed zero willingness to negotiate the player’s sale.

Unfortunately for Manchester City, Ferro has recently extended his contract with Benfica.

The deal lasts until June 2023 and the player now has a huge €100m release clause.
