Atalanta youngster Giorgio Scalvini has ended up in the sights of Manchester City, as per reports.
The 18-year-old came up through the ranks of the Serie A side’s youth system before he was promoted to the senior team by Gian Piero Gasperini in January 2021.
Last season, he mainly operated as a centre-back, making 18 league appearances.
This term, Gasperini has used him in the defence and also in midfield, as he handed the player his first start of the campaign against AS Roma and Scalvini repaid his manager’s faith by scoring the only goal of the game in his side’s victory over the Giallorossi.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international’s goal at the Stadio Olimpico ‘highlights his rise’ so far, and it’s no surprise this has caught the attention of Manchester City and other clubs.
Atlético Madrid tried signing the teenager in the summer but weren’t successful. That has not put off the La Liga side as the newspaper states they will not give up.
Manchester City are tagged as the report explains Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘keeping an eye on’ Scalvini, as the Spaniard clearly continues to plan for the future at the Etihad.
