On Wednesday, Record reported Chelsea ‘join the fight’ for Nuno Mendes as they are looking to beat Manchester City and Manchester United to the Sporting star.

A Bola on Thursday state that in addition to the interest of the two Manchester clubs, Barcelona, and ‘above all’ Real Madrid, are also ‘aiming’ for the left-back.

Los Blancos relied on Ferland Mendy and Marcelo last season, and with the Brazilian expected to leave, they need a new player to provide competition for Mendy.

Therefore, Real Madrid, who are planning to remodel their squad, have made unofficial approaches for Mendes.

For now, due to developments which took place last week, the Citizens ‘are ahead of’ the Old Trafford club and the La Liga giants in the chase for the 18-year-old.

Manchester City want to strengthen the left-back position, and have ‘reserved €60m plus €10m in variables’ for the Portugal international. Pep Guardiola considers it ‘essential’ to sign a new left-back and at the Etihad, and Mendes is gathering ‘greatest consensus’.

Sporting are looking to take Pedro Porro, who is on loan from City, on a permanent deal for €8.5m, and Porro could be used in the negotiations for Mendes.

At Manchester United, they don’t consider bringing in a new left-back a priority because the position is currently covered by Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Mendes has made it to Portugal’s squad for Euro 2020 and A Bola explain a transfer is unlikely to be completed before the start of the UEFA tournament, mainly because it gives the player an opportunity to showcase his qualities at an ‘even more demanding level’.
