Manchester City have an agreement in place with Valencia star Ferran Torres but are yet to agree on a fee with the Spanish club.
That’s what Marca report today, stating that the La Liga side are holding out for a significant fee for the right-winger after missing out on the Champions League.
The newspaper explain that Torres, a right-winger who has six goals and eight assists in 43 games in all competitions this summer, is well-liked by Manchester City and a target this summer.
They have already come to an agreement with the Spaniard over a move but are yet to negotiate a fee with Valencia for it to happen.
However, that contract expires next summer and several ‘serious proposals’ for a renewal have fallen on deaf ears with the player.
Valencia, therefore, know that if they don’t sell this summer, they risk losing him on a free next year and robbing themselves of the chance to make a major profit.
This is something Manchester City are trying to take advantage of and have already seen a bid of €35m, plus add-ons for various objectives rejected.
That figure is considered as ‘insufficient’ although City have made it clear that their offer will not exceed that amount.
Valencia, for their part, had budgeted to sell Torres for €45m this summer but their failure to qualify for the Champions League means they will ‘have to double’ that figure according to the newspaper.
That would mean a €90m asking price, just €10m less than his €100m release clause, a figure Manchester City, or indeed anyone, won’t pay.
Perhaps if Pep Guardiola’s side were to get close to that €45m fee, Valencia might be more open, although, given the player’s contract situation, the power is very much in City’s hands in this potential deal.
