Portuguese side Marítimo are close to signing Manchester City striker Pablo Moreno, according to reports from the local media.
The transfer is revealed by Mais Futebol, who, for now, don’t detail how much the Liga Bwin side are set to spend on the transfer.
The report only claims that the player is ‘unlinking’ himself from Manchester City, who are set to have a clause to buy him back from Marítimo in the future. Perhaps that’s a sign the move is being done for free, although there’s no confirmation yet.
Moreno, who was part of Barcelona’s and Juventus’ youth ranks, joined the Premier League side on a €10m deal from the Old Lady in 2020.
The striker, however, never had a chance to play for Manchester City, as he had two consecutive loans at Spanish side Girona, where he had two goals in 45 appearances.
The striker lives a similar situation to Nahuel Bustos, another striker who spent the last couple of seasons at Girona, and is set to be sold by Pep Guardiola’s side this summer. So this seems like a coordinated operation to get rid of those players who will be of no use at the English club.
