Despite the huge race that is being formed for the signing of Benfica star Darwin Nunez this summer, it seems Manchester City could actually have an advantage in the competition against other European sides.
Portuguese newspaper Record today brings a piece to mostly talk about the relationship between the player and his former agent, who reportedly tried to visit him and found no one home.
Then speaking of Darwin’s future, the outlet points out that there are two clubs who are his ‘favourites’ for a summer move. Those are Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
That means a lot, as the list of interested clubs is pretty long.
For example, in this story alone, Record names the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Monaco and Bayern Munich.
The truth is that despite the large race, Manchester City have indeed been one of the clubs who have been linked to the striker for longer, as the reports of their interest dates back to 2020.
The problem is that Darwin’s price is only going up. This year, we’ve already seen stories from Portugal saying Benfica were demanding €60m, then €80m and now €100m for his move.
The player has 28 goals for the Eagles this season, having scored in the Champions League against the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Liverpool.
