Sturm Graz managing director Andreas Schicker has thanked Brighton and Hove Albion for the ease of negotiations to sign Malick Yalcouyé on loan.

Kleine Zeitung cover comments from the Sturm Graz managing director today after Yalcouyé signed on loan from Brighton for the season.

The 18-year-old only joined Brighton from IFK Göteborg in a €7m deal this summer as the Seagulls continue to hoover up talent from around the world for the future.

He is very much one to keep an eye on down the line and, like many Brighton youngsters, has been sent out on loan to continue his development elsewhere for the time being.

That’s seen him sent to Sturm Graz, who moved quickly to strike a deal for the 18-year-old to strengthen their own options.

It’s not the first time the two clubs have done business together, with Kjell Scherpen also moving from Brighton to Sturm Graz last season.

It means there is a good relationship between the two clubs and a deal for Yalcouyé was easy to get done this summer, something Schicker was keen to praise, and clearly wants to maintain for the future.

“Malick Yalcouyé is a highly gifted young player who we had followed closely during his time at Gothenburg,” he said.

“With his tackling strength and dynamism, he is an absolute profile player and brings another element to our midfield that gives us more options and gives us a broader base.

“I would also like to thank Brighton for the excellent cooperation that has existed since Kjell Scherpen’s transfer and gives us an excellent basis for discussions with those responsible for the sport there.

“We are pleased that Malick has signed in Graz and are convinced that he can help the team.”
