Wolverhampton Wanderers have been left ‘in despair’ by Julen Lopetegui’s refusal, a decision that put the club’s bosses ‘on the ropes’.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the Spanish boss’ decision today and the chaos it caused at Molineux.
The newspaper explains that Wolves ‘waited five days’ for Lopetegui’s sacking from Sevilla to be confirmed before trying to bring him in as Bruno Lage’s replacement.
‘Personal issues’ and his recent departure from Sevilla convinced him that it was best to take a break rather than moving to a new club just hours after leaving the previous one.
That left Wolves ‘in despair’ and scrambling around looking for alternatives, hence the links to several Portuguese coaches and former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
They have now seemingly settled on QPR’s Michael Beale, with reports in England making it clear that he is the number one target, and they plan to ask for permission to talk to him.
That is very much a last-minute change in direction, though, with the Wolves hierarchy having focused hard on Lopetegui and been left scrambling when he decided to turn them down.
