Earlier this season, Romelu Lukaku made it clear he wouldn’t mind returning to Inter at some point in his career.
This didn’t go down well at Chelsea, where the player’s expensive return hasn’t exactly gone to plan, as he has only scored 12 goals in 34 appearances to date.
Thomas Tuchel doesn’t appear fully convinced by him either, but one manager who is appears to be Simone Inzaghi, who briefly dealt with the Belgian at Inter.
This comes from Beppe Bergomi, who spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the Chelsea forward as he was asked if he would bring back the player.
He said: “Absolutely, yes. Inzaghi confessed to me that, even just for those 10 days in which he had him in Appiano during the start of pre-season, he had never coached such a strong forward.”
That’s quite the endorsement from the Italian manager, who had to replace the now Chelsea forward with Edin Dzeko, who has done rather well since arriving from AS Roma on a free transfer.
Scoring 16 goals in 39 games, the Bosnian has helped Inter forget about Lukaku somewhat, but it’s still a far cry from the 30 goals in 44 appearances the Belgium international managed last season under Antonio Conte.
