Manchester United finally announced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit on Sunday, after the manager’s position had become untenable.

Having had a reasonable last campaign there was a great deal of hope for the current season, however, things fell apart in recent weeks and it became increasingly clear there’d be no way back for the Norwegian.

Michael Carrick now takes charge until the Premier League club can find a longer term interim option, with them then expected to appointment a permanent, or as permanent as things can be for a United manager, in the summer.

Looking towards the summer, Erik ten Hag is one of the managers being linked the most, given his success with Ajax.

The Amsterdam club are currently level on points with PSV at the top of the Eredivisie, although their goal difference is far superior. Feyenoord are in third place, and should they win their game in hand they’ll jump from third to top of the league.

There’s obviously a lot of talk in the Netherlands about Ten Hag and Manchester United and, inevitably, Rafael van der Vaart has had his say.

Always ready with an option, FCUpdate.nl take his comments and go with a headline covering them: “If Man United come, Ten Hag won’t say no.”

They add him saying: “You’re not going to say no to that, are you? If Manchester United wants you, then you go. You have to be able to make your point. I don’t know if he can do that in English. I think it still needs to be refined.”

Interestingly, there’s a few slants in the Dutch media showing concern over Ten Hag’s level of English. That’s likely at least partly because the level of English speaking is generally so good in the Netherlands that their standards are very high.
