Manchester City star Vincent Kompany missed out on Belgium’s 1-1 draw against Netherlands last night, despite initially being named in the starting XI.

Kompany reportedly felt discomfort during the pre-match warm up, and had to be replaced by Watford’s Christian Kabasele.

After the game, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez spoke to the media (via HLN) about the decision to leave Kompany out for the match.

The former Everton boss insists they didn’t want to risk the Manchester City defender, and are now waiting for medical reports.

He said: “We didn’t want to take any chances with Kompany. I guess he didn’t feel well in the warm-up. Now we have to wait for the investigations.”

Belgium play Estonia in their match and Martinez claims he’ll only know in the next 24 hours if Kompany is fit to play.

He added: “I’ll only know within 24 hours whether Kompany plays the Estonia match. It would surprise me if he gets fit, but he worked well in the past few days.”
