Of all the Champions League games this week, Manchester United versus RB Leipzig should prove to be among the more exciting clashes.
United have endured an indifferent start to the season, although their win over Paris Saint-Germain last week has led to renewed optimism.
Leipzig, meanwhile, have continued to impress under Julien Nagelsmann and started their European campaign with a 2-0 win over Istanbul Basasksehir.
It sets this game up as an interesting duel and one that’s getting the predictable amount of coverage in German.
Marbacher Zeitung preview the game today and warn Manchester United that Leipzig travel to Old Trafford’ with the self-confidence of a table leader and Champions League semi-finalist.’
That does not mean they are expecting an easy game, though, with it established this clash will show ‘how mature’ Nagelsmann’s side are. Indeed, the Leipzig boss expects the game to be the ‘first royal class endurance test’ for his team.
He, reportedly, ‘attaches little importance’ to Manchester United’s indifferent start to the campaign, such as the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace or 6-1 thrashing to Tottenham.
However, it is claimed that United’s ‘desolate defensive behaviour’ is something has been noted by the Leipzig coach, who has also ‘noticed’ how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed to five at the back in Paris.
This is something he has to plan for accordingly, especially with a busy upcoming schedule, meaning he will have to use his ‘strength sparingly’.
One player who won’t miss out is defender Angeliño, who has been starring at the beginning of this season after re-signing from Manchester City.
He’s described as ‘indispensable’ at this moment in time, and it seems he’s excited to be heading back to Manchester with his new club.
“Coming back to Manchester, where I’ve spent a large part of my career so far, and then playing against a top team from the Premier League at the famous Old Trafford is, of course, a special match for my team and me,” he told BILD.
“We are all really looking forward to the game!
“Manchester United is not an easy task, and it is difficult to predict who will have the upper hand, as both teams are currently in a good mood.
“We have to focus on our strengths and stick to the match plan from the first to the last minute.
“I’m sure our coach will give us some things to take away from Manchester! “
