Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has told the club to keep a close eye on Romelu Lukaku’s situation at Chelsea ahead of a possible move for him in the summer.

That’s according to Super Deporte, who say the Spanish side are watching developments ‘with interest’ as Lukaku looks set to depart Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian arrived from Inter Milan in a £100m+ deal but has struggled to live up to the heights he hit during his two years in Italy.

A very public falling out with Thomas Tuchel a few months ago did not help the situation, and the striker has been on the sidelines for most of the time since then, with Kai Havertz preferred as a false nine.

That’s led to the belief that Chelsea will look to move him on this summer, and Atletico Madrid could be a potential destination for him.

Super Deporte say that the Colchoneros are ‘attentive’ to his situation as the striker is a player that Simeone ‘likes a lot’.

Should he be available in the summer transfer window, they ‘don’t want to miss the opportunity’ to sign him if they can.

They are not the only interested party, with Inter, PSG, Tottenham and even Bayern Munich ‘on the lookout’ for a striker they consider to be ‘one of the best in Europe’. Crucially for Atletico, Lukaku is a big fan of Simeone.

At the moment, the La Liga champions are not currently in a position to ‘fight financially’ and match Chelsea’s demands, but they are planning their own exits for the summer.

Joao Felix could leave, while there is still a chance Juventus will pay the €35m in Alvaro Morata’s loan deal. Luis Suarez is also set to leave, opening up ‘enormous financial savings’ that could ‘radically change’ the situation and give them the chance to get Lukaku.
