Mexico’s national team manager Gerardo Martino has been urged to consider dropping Raul Jimenez in favour of Javier Hernandez, because it’s claimed the latter has a better goalscoring instinct than the Wolves star.
Hernandez, better known in Mexico as Chicharito, is currently playing for LA Galaxy. The 33-year-old has played two MLS matches so far this season, and scored one goal. Last season he scored 17 goals in 21 matches, as well as adding three assists.
Jimenez has five goals and three assists in 25 Premier League matches for Wolves in the current campaign.
The man bringing the opinion is Jared Borgetti, who is the second highest scorer in history for Mexico’s national side. He’s keen for Hernandez to return to the national team, at the expense of the Wolves man.
Should Martino not want to drop Jimenez, then Borgetti has asked him to consider playing the pair together, making it clear he feels it’s crucial Hernandez gets in the team, but that would involve moving the Wolves player out wide.
“They can play together, of course,” Borgetti said. “When Raul started in America he played with Benítez in front, Benítez was the ‘nine’ and he was on the sides.”
