Arriving on loan from Watford at Eupen right at the end of the transfer window in Belgium, Sulayman Marreh slotted pretty much straight into Claude Makelele’s first-team.
Missing the first available game as he’d signed just one day prior, the 22-year-old was selected two weeks later after the international break, and he’s started every league game since.
Sent away by the Hornets in order for him to get first-team experience, the defensive midfielder recently suffered a broken nose, forcing him off the pitch in a 2-1 loss to Royal Antwerp.
That, however, didn’t stop him from going on international duty, where he played for The Gambia for the 13th and 14th time in a double fixture against Togo.
He said: “He played his game with the national team. If he needs surgery, it will happen during the (next international) break”.
This means the Watford loanee is likely to play the next few games with a face mask on, showing his determination to continue his rather good start to the season under the former France international.
After all, there are few better tutors for a young defensive midfielder than Claude Makelele, so the Hornets could end up with a real gem when he returns to Vicarage Road next season.
