A couple of days ago, news emerged in France that Leicester City had made a bid for Marseille’s Bouna Sarr.

Testing the waters with a €3m bid, the Foxes saw their offer rejected by the Ligue 1 side, mostly due to the fact the winger, currently being used at full-back by Rudi Garcia, is key to the club’s depth on the right hand side of the defence for the second half of the season.

While there were rumblings that a new bid from Claude Puel’s side could land on Marseille’s desk in the coming days, the French club’s manager has made his stance clear during a press conference on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s game against Strasbourg.

Relayed by Le10 Sport, he said: “Bouna had a good game. He can’t stop there. He’s 100% Marseille. If he makes it, it’ll be in that role (at right-back). He needs to continue to learn, but he’s impressing. Leicester? I haven’t heard anything about it. Bouna Sarr leaving has never been a topic of conversation”.

Clearly liked by the former Roma manager, the 25-year-old was said to be willing to see how things panned out and wasn’t going to force a move away, even if he was flattered by the interest in him.

If Marseille’s board haven’t relayed information to Garcia about Leicester’s bid, then it seems they clearly didn’t deem the amount important enough.

Maybe a new improved bid could see them pass a memo down to their manager, but if he’s against the player leaving, maybe they won’t bother then either.
