Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola has turned down Leeds United’s attempt to sign him, the Spanish media says.

Onda Cero journalist Raul Granado reveals that the manager said ‘no’ to the opportunity of taking charge of the Whites, and is staying at the La Liga side to fulfil his contract.

There are no further details on Leeds’ approach for now, but the message seems pretty clear, with Iraola committed to the Spanish club.

The truth is that the Madrid media had already been expecting the coach to stay at Rayo Vallecano. That’s because following the first reports from the English media regarding the Whites’ interest, reports started popping up saying the manager would not want to leave his side in the middle of the season, despite the big chances of a departure next summer.

Leeds have been without a manager since the sacking of Jesse Marsch on Monday, and currently have Michael Skubala as the caretaker.

Iraola had been considered the frontrunner for the job, and is followed by names like Arne Slot, Nuno Espírito Santo, Rafa Benitez and Marcelo Gallardo.
