Liverpool have started to move for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot thanks to three factors they’ve identified as key to replacing Jurgen Klopp.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say Slot has made it clear he expects an agreement to be reached if Liverpool or other clubs make an official offer for him.
The newspaper covers how Slot’s name has skyrocketed in the odds this week after talks with Ruben Amorim seemingly fell away and he was linked to West Ham instead.
Numerous reports have put him at the top of Liverpool’s list since and De Telegraaf say this is because the criteria to replace Klopp revolves around three important things ‘personality, playing style and player development’.
They focus on personality in particular and say Liverpool want a manager who is able to hold his own verbally ‘to the outside world’. Slot fits the bill on that front and, in fact, scores high on all three points.
His latest comments after winning the KNVB cup at the weekend have also led to a belief he is ready to move on.
He made it clear in those that he would consider an offer from a major club abroad and Liverpool can definitely be qualified as that.
He’s also stated behind the scenes that he expects Feyenoord to reach an agreement should it come to it. The management at the club are yet to respond to those comments but have made it clear Liverpool and other suitors need to contact general manager Dennis te Kloese.
The power is very much in his hands because Slot’s contract doesn’t include a release clause and he is the highest earner in the history of the club in terms of managers. Thus, he can, and is likely to demand a ‘sky-high buyout fee’ for the Dutchman.
Liverpool need to be aware of that ahead of a potential move then, although there has been no concrete proposal as yet.
Slot is suddenly and increasingly seen as the ideal candidate to replace Klopp, though, ticking all the boxes those in charge at Anfield are looking for and making it clear he’s ready to move on too.
