Fotomaç report Besiktas are looking at the availability of Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Turkish club are looking for a striker in this transfer window and have also been linked with the likes of Jackson Martinez, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Simone Zaza.
Besiktas recently confirmed the signing of Rijeka’s defender Matej Mitrovic, and Fotomaç claim Newcastle United’s Mitrovic could also be on his way to Istanbul after Besiktas registered their interest in the Serbian forward.
It’s also been claimed the offer comes to Besiktas from Vincent Aboubakar’s agent Andre Buffard, who played a key role in the forward’s transfer to Besiktas. According to Transfermakrt the two are represented under the same agent group umbrella.
The Besiktas board have asked manager Senol Gunes’ opinion on Mitrovic and the Turkish boss said he needs to see him more before making a decision
It’s also been reported that Besiktas are planning a 6 month deal for Mitrovic, but the length of the contract could depend on Newcastle United getting promoted to the Premier League.
Mitrovic has struggled get game time this season because of the form of summer signing Dwight Gayle. The 22-year old may feel he has to play regularly for Rafa Benitez’s side in order to keep his place in the Serbia national team and that’s what Besiktas and any agents involved would be banking on.
Mitrovic has played 51 league games for Newcastle since his move from Anderlecht, scoring 12 goals. The Serbian is currently under contract at St. James Park until 2020.
An exit seems unlikely unless Benitez can first bring in a replacement. Mitrovic showed some good form before his recent injury, and perhaps there’s more hope in Turkey than there should be.
