New Zealand manager Anthony Hudson has confirmed the injury Leeds United forward Chris Wood has sustained isn’t serious. The Leeds United star has been ruled out of his country’s World Cup Qualifier against Fiji today, but that’s more out of precaution.

Nzfootball have reported on comments Hudson made in his press conference when asked about Wood. The New Zealand coach said because of the injury the Leeds United player picked up in the first game with Fiji last week they will rest him as a precaution. Hudson highlighted New Zealand have important games around the corner, and therefore he doesn’t want to risk his star man, and it’s probably best to keep Garry Monk onside too.

“Chris’ injury is not too serious but I’ve decided to be extra cautious. It is important that we have a fit and healthy Chris Wood for the FIFA Confederations Cup and qualifiers late in the year,” said Hudson.

Wood is Leeds United’s man of the moment, and was on hand to score a brace against promotion rivals Brighton in his side’s last game. The forward is now out on his own as the Championship’s top goalscorer, and Leeds United boss Garry Monk will need Wood for their crucial game against Reading on Saturday.
