Newcastle United now look on the verge of announcing Eddie Howe as their new manager, just a few days after looking on the verge of announcing Unai Emery.
The whirlwind has seen all kinds of claims, in both the English and Spanish media, but the general theme is that the Magpies didn’t approach things in the right way and it’s a situation to put down to experience.
Emery, if claims close to Villarreal are correct, was irritated by leaks to the media, especially given the whole circus happened on the day of an important Champions League match for his club.
The manager and the Spanish side have kissed and made up, and everyone involved is trying to put the situation behind them. AS report that Emery has ‘shelved the Newcastle issue’ and it’s now not even a topic of conversation at the club.
He’s concentrating on getting his own side back to winning ways in La Liga, and doesn’t want the Magpies issue to overshadow anything going forward.
There had been suggestions in Spain that Emery didn’t outright refuse Newcastle because he didn’t want to upset the club’s owners, believing there may be another opportunity in the future.
