Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández has set his sights on Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso for the winter market.
That’s according to Sport, who state the manager ‘was clear’ the 27-year-old can help the La Liga side replace Gavi, who will spend a long spell on the sidelines due to a serious injury.
It’s claimed Xavi is an an admirer of the Tottenham player and has followed him for a long time.
Xavi believes the 27-year-old could form a good understanding with Robert Lewandowski, if he were to leave Spurs for the Catalan club. The striker needs assistance and Sport suggest Lo Celso is ‘one of the best’ in the market for that job.
A potential deal in January is complicated due to two reasons. The first one is Barcelona’s salary limit as they only have room to register Vitor Roque next month.
Tottenham’s stance is the second reason.
The Argentina international has a deal lasting until 2025 and it’s explained that Spurs ‘don’t agree to negotiate’ his exit in January.
Lo Celso has scored two goals from five games since the last international break and this shows Ange Postecoglou is relying on him at Tottenham.
