Anders Dreyer struggled during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion between 2018 and 2020.
The winger came up through the ranks of Esbjerg fB’s youth system and was promoted to their first team in 2016. He had an impressive campaign during the 2017/18 season, during which he scored 21 goals and registered eight assists from 34 matches in all competitions.
This convinced Brighton to take the now 24-year-old away from Esbjerg in the summer of 2018, but he wasn’t given an opportunity to be part of the Premier League side’s first team and had to settle for a place in their U21 side.
Brighton let the Denmark international go out on loan to St Mirren and SC Heerenveen in 2019, before selling him to FC Midtjylland in the winter 2020 market. Sporza explain his dream move to Brighton ‘came to nothing’.
Dreyer joined Anderlecht last month and Sporza had a chat with John Lammers, who had the player under his orders at Esbjerg during the 2017/18 season.
On Dreyer’s decision to join Brighton, his former manager said: “Brighton wasn’t a smart choice – he didn’t even train with the first team. Anders did not get his chance in Heerenveen either. And those six months in Scotland, pah… No football at all for him, with only those long balls.”
