In January 2018, Barcelona took Marcus McGuane from Arsenal and assigned him to their B-team.
On deadline day of the summer transfer window, the La Liga winners allowed the 20-year-old to join second division Dutch side, SC Telstar on a season-long loan.
His loan deal will be cut short this month after Telstar manager Andries Jonker revealed the defensive midfielder has an agreement with Nottingham Forest.
“He himself has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest. We have reached that as well with him as the club. It only needs to be confirmed in writing. It seems official, but in football everything is possible and I believe it is black is on white,” Jonker said, as quoted by NH Nieuws.
According to NH Nieuws, the paperwork still needs to be arranged for the deal to be completed, but they add all parties are convinced McGuane will join Nottingham Forest. They make it clear the player’s chances of continuing at Telstar in the second half of the season are ‘nil’.
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing on the back page of Mundo Deportivo provides a short update as he says McGuane’s loan deal with Telstar will be terminated if Barcelona receive an offer from the Championship club.
